Lodge House
Planning permission was granted by the Secretary of State in 2007 to recover one million tonnes of coal over a 4.5 year period from the 122 hectare site which lies to the east of the Derbyshire village of Smalley.
Mining operations will commence in the summer of 2008 and will ultimately provide for a significantly diverse wildlife habitat area to that which currently occupies the site. The restoration scheme itself, will generate new areas of woodland, species rich hay meadows, wetland habitats, as well as vastly improved and increased public access, and making improvements to some poor quality, post war land restoration.
