This former operational and surface mine site comprises in total in excess of 600 acres and will be developed over the short, medium and long term for a mix of sustainable new community of high quality jobs and homes.
The first effective phase of the development is progressing well in Joint Venture with the Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward, and is known as Waverley Advanced Manufacturing Park. This 100 acre phase targets occupiers in the high technology metals and aeronautic sectors. new joint venture company with Strategic Sites has been formed developing 8664sq.m (93,256 sq.ft) of employment space. Six buildings have currently been constructed and are occupied by world leading R & D and manufacturing organisations and the latest sub-phase 100,000 sq ft of hybrid R & D manufacturing units will commence on site in the mid summer. Adjacent to the first phase is the main medium and long term community development known as Waverley, where the Company will develop approximately 1 million sq ft of business space and in Joint Venture with housing partners, up to 4,000 new homes. The scheme will be a national exemplar and will create a magnificent small new town of highly sustainable environmentally sound and aspirational housing alongside a mix of commercial development that could over the period, produce in excess of 10,000 jobs.
The employment element of this scheme will be built in joint venture with Helical Governetz as a proposed new government office campus totalling 60,000 sq m (645,000 sq ft).
A planning application for the housing element of the scheme and the Helical Governetz development has been submitted (summer 2008).
